You mean time is “relative?” I think emotional experiences are, too. I think that whatever we’re experiencing we tend to experience within a given range of human emotion, even if objectively the cause or stimulant for those emotions is far different. For instance, to the person who has lost a loved one to a murder or their home and belongings to a natural disaster or arson, or fought in war and saw horrors, the experience of someone who worries or gets angry or deeply frustrated or depressed because of life events like a car crash or word of betrayal from a friend or losing a parent to cancer or something like that seems really petty and minor. But until that latter person has had a more severe event, like the trauma I mentioned before, he experiences emotional range almost as great. Truly traumatic events do cause marginally more extreme emotions, but I no longer dismiss a person’s feelings just because in perspective they aren’t going through much. However, giving and getting perspective really helps one to cope with their emotions.

I think time is relative in a similar way, in the human experience. We are limited creatures with only so much capacity for experience and understanding. I too see God in the great mass of time described by science.

One piece of perspective for you, based on your slightly political comment about health care :) :by that reasoning, what good is any technology if you can’t benefit from it? Yachts, huge screen TVs, or a Harvard (overrated) education? Again the limitations of humans comes in, but this time of our society and ability to own or experience within our lifetimes. No one is entitled to anything, but we do have a basic obligation to look after the basic needs of ourselves, our families, and then our communities, and a further common goal of bettering all of our lives, however we are most wisely able to define that goal.

Time is kind of relevant. I think of geologic time when I think of God. Earthquakes and plates shifting about and ice ages. My concept of civilization and culture are relevant to freedom. What good is medical technology if I dont have access to health care? I would like to live in a time when we didn’t have to worry about cancer.

I like the idea of working hard and saving for my retirement and dying of old age. I still dream about just as much probably as my grandparents did when they reality is that I might cetch a stray bullet in the next drive by shooting or get snagged by a sniper on the way to school, but honestly who dwells on it. We dream hypothetically about living somewhere in the wheel of time and selling our next screenplay.

I cant disregard the supernatural. God makes coincidences. I survived a bad car crash and quite honestly I miss the car. It was paid for already. I think of my hopes and fears when I think about our old summer cottage on the bay with no plumbing. I prefer plumbing and gas over electricity. I’m not that old. I’m a yellow dog democrat. Every year it gets increasingly more difficult to vote liberal. I would like to live in a time when you could listen hard and hear something for the first time.

Somethings are worth repeating but if you live right once is enough. For with much wisdom there is much vexation and he that increaseth his knowledge increaseth his sorrow.

We all know whats going to happen anyway.

I’m with AL, I like the present age. Besides, you can find groups who reenact everything from Romans to Vietnam (heavy but not exclusive accent on military) and just about everything in between, so you can have your toga or morning frock or whatever, and get your anti-biotics, too!

The Information Age is great… it is too bad we poor humans can only handle so much (often conflicting) data. I try to uphold Information Age values by learning as much as possible and then finding myself reduced to babbling incoherency.

Why would atheists want to control a human population? The atheists in charge of the former USSR couldn’t control theirs and they killed just about as many people as some christian and indeed supposed secular governments have so why not just agree that human beings just don’t form very good governments sometimes (or many times?). If people such as Idi Amin run things, he didn’t control his population with guns, now did he? Guns are very useful to despots, no matter their religion (or lack thereof). And I’m taking it easy on you, today, Good buddy, JT. Sometimes I think you should explain your statements better at the same time as posted so I (we) don’t have to ask you to explain later.
