In the “Jesus is the Gift” thread, I managed to fully unveil my heresy. Kinda like the character in the song, “Losing My Religion” by R.E.M., I’m going through a feeling of, ”...and now I’ve said too much.” More to the point, I feel like I’m destroying the nice “ecumenical” feeling we’ve had going here. It’s one thing to say you don’t believe in the Christian god. It’s quite another to equate that god with Satan.

I’m sorry to everyone, and especially to Arandur. Not for believing as I do; I can’t really change that. But… eh, I don’t know. I suppose for not keeping my mouth shut.

I don’t think anyone will (should) judge you for believing differently.

Well, I was shocked by your statement, yes, but actually what I understand you saying is that the Christian God and the god of the OT are not the same, so that you do believe in the good and loving Christian God, but just don’t think He was responsible for the OT.

Anyway, I don’t think you’re destroying an ecumenical feeling. Ecumenism doesn’t mean we all should be playing nice and keeping the kid gloves on. If we’re interested in sharing beliefs and searching for Truth, all we need do is respect each other, but hit the issues as hard as we feel necessary. Don’t hold out, and don’t hide, Swiss!

Anyway, hell, “ecumenical” pretty much means we can discuss our various forms of Christianity, and Marcionites/ Gnostics are Christians too, whether the mainstream thinks so or not. Well done.

You’re a good man, Arandur. And I have to ditto Satol’s sentiment: You are an enlightened Catholic. Though I hasten to add that I’ve found Catholics to be more enlightened than other Christians in the first place. ;-)

Funny thing is, it was like being in a really slow, really bad car wreck. I felt it coming on like a Mack truck, and finally said, “Screw it, I’ll just hit the ^$x%x*@ thing.” (grin)
