Got this idea from JT. Does anyone have a hasty pack planned for sudden extreme upheaval??? (i.e. complete economic meltdown, sudden anarchy spurred on by a cataclysmic event) And do you have any long term contingency plans???

Speaking of JT, where is he? I know he came to Wisc. for the holidays, but the holidays are over with?? Come home, JT!

No hasty pack, but my roommates and i are going to do something about that, especially because we have to figure out how to rescue our many pets, if necessary. I have been thinking about this since JT brought it up and also in the Pets thread. We are having a house meeting soon and that will be one of the topics. Will keep you advised.

Nope. I’ll probably be one of the ones trying to restore law and order… that, or rebelling if “law and order” turns out to be a totalitarian regime.

Mine would have to include first and foremost winter survival gear consisting of a four season expedition tent, down jacket, waterproof shell, -40 sleeping bag, camp stove, and 9mm self protection.

I’ll just try to dress well, stay as clean as possible, and be charming whenever necessary…oh…and the 9mm thingy as well…%>)

Not to forget soap, toilet paper, toothpaste, and brush… ;)

I’m guessing you’re single…and the Palmer twins don’t count…

He’s just trying to scare people away in this situation, AL. I’m sure he smells good at other times, right, rb, rb? yoo hoo! And you wouldn’t need WINTER survival gear where he’s at (I’m guessing!). Too, when you’ve got to pack bodies together for warmth, would rather everyone had their Eternity with them myself! I’m putting some into my pack right now!!

How the hell did I miss this thread?
Emergency packs in both vehicles, including handguns, ammo, warm clothes, and water. Doesn’t even require paranoia- earthquake country, and either of us could be about a week’s hike from home if a huge one strikes.

Home situation, a little more paranoid. Borrowing from my LDS buds, a years worth of food, cycled in and out on a regular basis. Water. Generator. 1000 rounds per firearm.

Avatar kookookachoo Moderator 1,380 post(s)

Don’t have any handguns, just shotguns and rifles. Think I’ll go shopping… (need ammo, too, 1000 per weapon does sound about right, tho i think about 300 for each shotgun will do.) This ammo should be rotated and oldest used for hunting, target and trap, right? Then keep replacing with new? Thanks for the advice. Now I can shoot trap in the back yard! Hooray!

This is such a butch thread…%>)

Hey, atheist, Christian, gay, straight, whatever. We are badasses.

nods…

Right on, Satol! I may be the most gung-ho liberal the world has ever seen, but don’t fuck with my guns! Well, friends may handle and use them. Gun ownership keeps the government honest. Our government(s) know the populace is armed, it’s a protection for us against them, if ever necessary. Especially when Georgie decides to make himself President for life in about six months. I would be real nervous about the timing of the next 911.

America…land of contrasts…very liberal on one hand…tres conservative on the other…the foreign view…

Avatar absoluteliquid Moderator 970 post(s)

I think it’s high time to invest in a heavy combat or assault rifle… Body armor also, although that is harder to get a hold of… I tried on a bullet proof vest of a friend of mines and it was a nice feeling…

Avatar kookookachoo Moderator 1,380 post(s)

The bullet proof shit is for protection, abs, not supposed to be a turn on…(wink wink)

Well put.

Fun topic!

Koo, you are indeed a man/Empress of contrasts! On the one hand, you’re definitely the most macho gay guy I know (guns, hunting, industrial business…), but then again your titular insistence speaks the opposite of Dinero’s Captain Shakespeare in Stardust.

I’m still building my supplies. Extended family is actually slowly working on contact and contingency plans.

We have probably 4-6 months of food, 1 month of water (wish it were easier to store more, though the water heater tank is a 50gal backup supply).

Don’t forget crank and low-energy appliances—radio and flashlights at the least. Plenty of batteries. Outdoor survival gear (not quite as winter-ready as you, AL, though I should be, since I live in CO and am from MO). Cans and cans of sterno (for cooking, heat, and a little flammable defense).

Koo and Satolkin, my wife and I have been talking about getting our firearms for years now, but haven’t yet (partly due to budget concerns). What would you recommend to get started? I’ve shot rifles, shotguns, and handguns of several types before, but am not yet trained and practiced, and my wife has less experience than I do. We need something on a fairly low budget and easy to use. If we don’t get to use the shotgun range two miles from our house before we move, I’ll be pissed!

We were thinking at least one shotgun and one handgun, moving up from there. I have a friend, by the way, who keeps a shotgun shell with rubber pellets loaded just for intruders. This he borrowed from his uncle, who’s been through two break-ins. The first he got lucky, the second he was ready for, blasted the guy on his ass with the rubber round, warned him to shut up and pay attention because the next one wasn’t so friendly. I like that idea :)

In the meantime, I’ll just hope that my swords will properly demonstrate to any intruder a psychotic eagerness for painful retaliation…
