My brain tingles…

Photobucket

...fifth cup today…

Avatar FiNiX 620 post(s)

I drank half a can of Coke once. I didn’t sleep at all that night.

Avatar kookookachoo Moderator 1,382 post(s)

Once? You are 15 years old and drank half a can of Coke once? It wasn’t the caffeine that kept you awake, it was probably the Coke itself, that shit is a real stomach upset, especially if you don’t drink it often.

I’m a big fan of caffeine, especially because I don’t do the speed thing anymore. i have to stay awake somehow…

Avatar FiNiX 620 post(s)

Well, only Coke once, but I’ve drunk other caffeinated things, and I’ve never managed to fall asleep the night after doing so.

Avatar SwissCelt 244 post(s)

Coffee. Give me coffee. Need to get my third cup. Drank Coke this morning. Need more. Gotta go. Bye.

;-)

Coffee is the only way to fly!!!
The only thing coke (or any cola for that matter) is good for is de-greasing engines and polishing chrome…
“Drinking soda is bad for your health in so many ways; science can’t even state all the consequences. Here’s what happens in your body when you assault it with a Coke:Within the first 10 minutes, 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. This is 100 percent of your recommended daily intake, and the only reason you don’t vomit as a result of the overwhelming sweetness is because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor.
Within 20 minutes, your blood sugar spikes, and your liver responds to the resulting insulin burst by turning massive amounts of sugar into fat.
Within 40 minutes, caffeine absorption is complete; your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, and your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream.
Around 45 minutes, your body increases dopamine production, which stimulates the pleasure centers of your brain – a physically identical response to that of heroin, by the way.
After 60 minutes, you’ll start to have a sugar crash”

Ugh. Not pretty.

I rarely drink soda, and when I do, I rarely manage to finish a whole can, and if I do, I usually do it over the course of an hour or so. (We’re talking about caffiene-free soda here, of course.)

Say, what about diet soda? I’ve heard that it’s actually no better, just differrent.

PS: when I can, I prefer to drink soda sweetened with pure cane suger, as opposed to that corn syrup crap and stuff like that. (It tastes better, for one thing.)

Avatar absoluteliquid Moderator 970 post(s)

Your body still turns sweeteners into sugar and then into fat… I really fail to see any benefit to diet soda… In high school two of my friends and I would each buy a 12 pack of Surge and see who could finish the whole thing first…This little gem of a soda contained something like 50% more caffeine than a can of Coke…51 mg…

Avatar absoluteliquid Moderator 970 post(s)

Actually, artificial sweeteners are fine. The American Cancer Association says all currently marketed sweeteners are safe (I looked this up two weeks ago actually). See this reference for Colorado Statue University extension report by Anderson and Young: http://www.ext.colostate.edu/PUBS/foodnut/09301…

“Alternative sweeteners are essentially calorie-free and at least 30 times sweeter than sucrose. “

I’m a fan of Splenda :”Sucralose. Approved by the FDA in 1998, sucralose is the only alternative sweetener made from sugar. It is 600 times sweetener than sucrose. Sucralose is derived from sugar through a patented, multi-step process that creates an extremely stable substance unable to be absorbed by the human body. It is excreted in the urine virtually unchanged.”

The more common Aspartame: “aspartame is composed of two naturally occurring amino acids (the building blocks of protein) – phenylalanine and aspartate…A packet of this sweetener is equivalent in sweetness to two teaspoons of sugar (32 calories), for just four calories. ... This is due to the fact that it can be used by the body just as any other protein, but the amounts are so small that its caloric value is insignificant. Aspartame does not contribute to tooth decay.”

I drink coffee daily and plain iced tea, too. I get a little rush from it, but I can drink a cup and sleep immediately if I want to. Probably due to the stimulant abuse in my past. But it does provide a lift, and I love the taste of good coffee. I had a roommate years ago who swore by very very cold Coke over cracked ice in the morning. I tried it, but it just didn’t work for me, just made me shiver, especially during those Minnesota winters. (Yeah, Jay, let’s take the “frozen” coke out with us when we start the car this morning, it’s only 25 below zero!)

Coffee. Gallons. Even that noxious crap at 7-11 that is high octane caffeine with “energy drink” crap thrown into it.

I sleep like a baby, and I’m thinking it might have been a sort of stimulant adaptation from the old days, much like Koo.
Crank. Large rails.
Biker days. Fun then, but it would kill me now.

Avatar ratboy Moderator 1,196 post(s)

Y’all…go out and purchase a “French Press”...world’s best coffee…

kookoo…put a menthol mint in yer mouth…drink a super cold Coke…cheap rush

Ugh. Most energy drinks taste like shit. Red Bull is decent enough, I guess… but at those prices, I’d rather drink Mountain Dew (which pretty much tastes the same to me).

I’ve built up a tolerance for caffeine, since I’ve been drinking coffee, tea, and Coke most of my life. (And AL, you’re not scaring me! ;-) ) I got to one point in my 20’s where weaning myself from it meant two days of withdrawals, with splitting headaches. Fortunately, I’ve not returned to that point, and I make a point of going without caffeine at least one day every week.

Avatar absoluteliquid Moderator 970 post(s)

Aye…those caffeine withdrawals are hell in a hand basket… worst fucking drug comedown/withdrawal I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing…days of vehement hatred for life… that’s why I stay on and stay happy :) :D :P :>

I use a french press at home, rb, but when out, I’m an espresso freak. Six shots on the rocks with plenty of milk or half and half. If it’s particularly cold outside, I will have a hot one instead. I never drank coffee until my late 20’s, now I couldn’t live without it.

Ah, yes, Satol, back in the good old days before people started manufacturing it in their kitchens using poison for ingredients. In a way, I feel sorry for the some of the younger folks, they will never know…(or they will kill themselves, one of the two!)

Avatar ratboy Moderator 1,196 post(s)

zounds…6 shots…a MAN’S drink…feel free to flex here*

Avatar absoluteliquid Moderator 970 post(s)

You can get one kilo of caffeine on ebay for $94.95 + $9.25 s&h…

Avatar Arandur 624 post(s)

Yay for cheap, legal drugs, eh?

Avatar ratboy Moderator 1,196 post(s)

I detect a note of sarcasm,Arandur…

Avatar kookookachoo Moderator 1,382 post(s)

Yeah, I know, get those damned specs out again, rb. (Good gosh, I should have just left them out in the first place!)

Avatar ratboy Moderator 1,196 post(s)

sarcasm is the lowest form of humour…and the most effective…

someone said that…besides me…as it were…yes

Avatar lightintheda... 25 post(s)

this is about the artificial sugar thing, aspartame has been shown to cause short term memory loss and increase the chances of alzheimers.

Edit:Equal, the sweetener, turns to the stuff that tanners use to dissolve the hair off of hides when it goes through your digestive system.
