Finix and AL, you guys have it right. Being responsible stewards of the earth means we need to do what we can to reduce our impact, but within reason and without following misguided advice. So yes, conserving energy, recycling, reducing waste, using water efficiently, all of these things we should do. But they shouldn’t keep us from driving cars at all, or buying a non-hybrid car, or becoming Amish :)

I don’t think we can control it, per se. Rather, I believe it has a way of controlling us… as opposed to destroying us.

Let’s look at human history. Evolutionists and Biblical Creationists alike can agree that man came from somewhere in the general vicinity of the Middle East/East Africa/etc. Point is, it’s a very warm climate. Then we wound up in places like Siberia, Alaska, and Northern Europe, and all of a sudden instead of dying out we figured out how to wear furs and our skin got lighter. Then we went into places like the Caribbean, and bam… no more furs, we figured out how to fish, and our skin got darker again. Even today, evolution causes us to adapt. I mean, have you seen pictures of Florida Governor Charlie Crist, how he has such a permanent tan for some guy from Pennsylvania? ;-)

Okay, that last part was a joke, but seriously skin color is not static. It changes from generation to generation, and it does so in ways that aren’t explained by genetics alone. We adapt. We think of ways to survive in new environments, and more importantly so do our bodies.

I find it interesting that we think we can control it if it should get out of hand. That is a rather large step in evolution, to think (and hope) we can manage things on a global scale. But maybe we can’t control it and shouldn’t need to anyway if we just let it run it’s course and adapt, as in above posts. You all have extremely valid points above, Bravo! (I believe it’s “Bravura!” for a diva!)

I would like to note something interesting that people often forget before I move on: humanity and everything created by humanity is, in a sense, natural, for we are a part of nature.

Using the words “nature” and “natural” can get confusing. Better to stick to clearer terms such as “man-made” and such, me thinks.

“Global Warming will not occur quickly enough to destroy all life. Species will continue to adapt and evolve, as they have since the beginning of time.”

Yes, but I still think it’s best not to eff with the enviornment when it can be helped.

Which isn’t to say that we should over-extend ourselves so as to stop the enviornment from changing, but that we should take the time to ride our bikes to the park and use less destructive farming methods when it can be aforded.

Yay! A Christian believer in evolution! ;-)

Seriously, that’s one thing that bothers me about the Global Warming crowd: They seem to ignore the process of evolution which ensures the survivability of life on this planet. Global Warming will not occur quickly enough to destroy all life. Species will continue to adapt and evolve, as they have since the beginning of time.

Yes, but I’m pointing more to things like diseases and blights, those that affect humans or forests or other species. Competition in nature results in some species wiping out or replacing others, and humanity is no different. We can and should be selective and careful about what we do, but nature can recover from us eliminating smallpox and polio, or trying to eliminate a tree blight rapidly wiping out a tree species, or even choosing to not drop everything to save a tiny local population of a species. All the organisms in nature are always adapting to such events.

It really scares me sometimes, I think that it’s a sign that the end is soon. It does say in the bible that the next time God destroys the earth and it’s inhabistants won’t be of water, like in noah’s arc, but of fire. Did anyone see that documentary by Ale Gore. SUPER GOOD! I reccomend it!!! :)))

Endangered species…I agree with the aesthetic that we should highly value animal life and species, but we should be clear that “nature” doesn’t care about species, we do. This world has seen billions of species come and go, most at the expense of climatic shifts and the success of other competing species in the past. We’re only different because we are aware enough to try to preserve species. Of course, we should have nothing against destroying harmful parasitic organisms, or invasive species threatening native species, but we also need not halt everything to save a species that only exists in a tiny population, like those native only to single trees in the rainforests (though we should certainly require strong reasons to risk them).
