OK, this can be the daily thread for the rest of March. We should probably call it a monthly thread, but we should be able to keep track, we are not incapable. lol

I have news. I have asked the Admin about new registrants thru a topic here and I also emailed them. I got the most interesting reply in my mailbox, but so far no reply on the site. I mentioned in my missive that we have not had any newbies for some time and is the site still closed to new registrants? They said that the site is open to new people, but I don’t see that. My boyfriend and roommate have tried to register, but nothing still happens. Could one of you guys either try to register under a different name or have a friend try to register to see if they can get on the site? As far as we can tell, you still can’t get on and Admin thinks that you can, so I want to let them know either way. I suspect that you won’t be able to, because we have been at 201 voices since Feb. 2nd (202 on Feb. 1st but one of those was the spammer). Please advise your results. And we thank you for your support! (lol)

There is a new ad, if you haven’t noticed. Has anyone checked it out yet?

Unfortunately, I accidentally deleted Admin’s reply to me but it was very interesting. It also took about five days to get the reply. So, I asked them about the new registrant thing and they said the site IS open to new registrants, so see above.

I said it’s kinda quiet on the site and maybe it’s the winter blahs or something. I suggested that some of us should post links to GSLU on other sites that we frequent, maybe on some religious sites, other sites, etc. I also asked if it was Ok for us to do that. They said, great idea, go ahead! (let’s NOT do that right now, though, until we determine if new people will be able to register)

I said that it was cool to be a moderator and I enjoyed doing that. I also said that it was interesting that we were recently made moderators, but that the site was so quiet lately that we are barely needed. (lol). They said (AND HERE IS THE MOST INTERESTING PART OF THEIR REPLY):
This is your website. We have given it to you and you may do as you like with it.

So, now, are they giving it to US? (Are they giving it to ME?). Whatever on that. But if they are giving it to us, are we going to get additional controls? Do we already have additional controls that we don’t know about? For example, can we now throw people off the site as they said we would be able to do last month? Are there additional things we can do that I wouldn’t know how to do or access since I don’t know crap about computers? Well, you know what I mean.

Can we rearrange things, move pictures about, get rid of those stupid news reports that we don’t read anyway? Can we remodel if we want to? I don’t know exactly what they mean by what they said and I certainly don’t know how to proceed here.

So, PLEASE, AL, rb, others, some input here!

I’ll poke around the site some, but though I know a fair bit about computers and suchlike, I’m not sure I’ve discovered much more than you about this site. It could use a good reformat, but it would seem that we’d need to have access to the actual files and be able to edit them offline…

I agree that we must discover how to harvest new blood if we are to keep this site alive and kicking. Forums are much like vampires that way. Of course, as RB has pointed out many a time, vamps don’t seem to be real, so perhaps neither is this site or the virtual vampirism by which the internet functions…but who am I to tell in my keyboard-induced state of hallucination?

You’re right; while you don’t have access to the design files, you (all) should be the voice and direction. What do you want to remodel specifically?

Admin., I like the site the way it is, we don’t have to do any remodeling. I was only mentioning that I never read the news “flashes” on the right side of the homepage. Thank you for clearing up my confusion, I thought maybe you left me the site in your will or something (lol). What about kicking spammers off the site? Can we do that yet? (And, of course, how? And, how to let us know how in a public forum, hmmm…) Can you advertise the site on that Nowheremen.net place? Would it even be worthwhile?

OK, I am assuming that testymc5 is one of us, but what about crazyjuice? One of us, too? Is it possible that if you used your same email address to sign up again, you lost your avatar? I don’t know as much as I would like to about this. Try FiNiX’s solution. Thanks, FiNiX! (Of course, testymc5 could be that delicious new sandwich from McDonald’s, altho how a sandwich could get on the site??)

Aran, thanks for volunteering to flit about the site, but it looks like problem(s) solved except for we need some new blood. So, keep working on ideas for that. Thank you, hon. I’ll finish up my reply from a couple days ago on the atheism thread ASAP for you.

I don’t know if I can post links to the site from American Atheists.com or other sites, but I will try that. We may not need a big crowd of atheists jumping on right now, tho. Any thoughts? Are there religious or other sites that any of you frequent that would be good candidates for a link?

I am still planning a list of topics that may be able to be deleted, I’ll get to work on it and post them in the delete threads topic if I didn’t delete that one already (lol).
