lol…So a study (which requires public sessions) on what provokes violent and terroristic behavior is a threat to our freedom? No, I think that is indeed paranoid propaganda.

Please people. Take this statement and RESEARCH FOR YOURSELVES and see how you feel about it. I think it is just about as far from the TRUTH as you can get. My suggestion is research and find out what is REALLY happening in our world today.

wardo, did you even read it? You can’t now because they took it down. But if you did you would have read that is was a bill that was going into the house.

The bill states:

’...ideologically based violence’ means the use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual’s political, religious, or social beliefs…

Note that this means the “planned use of force to promote a political or social belief” would be considered an act of terrorism. This all hinges on the definition of “force,” of course. Based on the loose use of logic in Washington these days, and the slippery interpretation of the meaning of words, “force” could mean:

• A grassroots campaign to barrage Congress with faxes
• A non-violent street protest
• A letter-writing campaign that deluges the Senate with too much mail
• A sit-in protest that blocks access to a business or organization
• A grassroots e-mail campaign that overloads the e-mail servers of any government department or agency

You get the idea. “Force” could be defined as practically anything. And since the “planned use of force” would be considered a criminal act of terrorism, anyone who simply thinks about a grassroots action campaign would be engaged in terrorist acts.

All I gotta say is, remember the patriot act.

Yes, I did read it the day you posted that. A little perceived fuzziness on your part as to what the government might consider “force” does not spell the end of American freedom though. I feel like you’re being a bit paranoid to think that a letter writing campaign might be viewed as “force” in the sense that this law was written. There isn’t much I can say to dissuade you on it becuase your worldview seems to be such that you believe “Bush and Co.” are inherently evil and power hungry. Becuase of that, you’re going to see everything in a certain light. And there is just nothing I can say to change your perspective on that.

I’m a moderate-ish small government type. I find it funny that liberals cried about rigged voting machines in 2000 and 2004 becuase Republicans won, but didn’t have a single issue with those same voting machines when Democrats won in 2006. I find it funny that liberals went along with the occupation of Samolia and the carpet bombing of Kosovo under Clinton, two places that had absolutely no bearing on our social/economic/political scene. And yet, those same people have called Afghanistan and Iraq “illegal” wars and argue that America should never use military force unless there is a direct tie to our security. I also find it funny how liberals said that Republicans were just hunting witches when they went after the Clinton’s for accusations of murder, bribery, etc and then the perjury issue which we know was true. But that hasn’t stopped them from screaming to the heavens that Bush has done immoral, shady, and evil acts and pursuing the same kinds of witch-hunts.

In short, the mindset that you seem to be advocating (And please forgive me if I have understood you wrong) is full of hypocrisy and doom and gloom forcasting that I simply don’t see based in any kind of reality.

One of the problems when discussing politics is that people can be just as intractable on that subject as on religion (so this is a heckuva place for such a discussion, isn’t it? lol).
