I have seen references to drug use on the site, including from me. Not that I condone it (for me, maybe!). A very few religions use certain drugs as part of their rituals. What do you folks think of drug use? I am thinking legal as well as illegal here.

I’ve had a few “experiences”(waves to the C.I.A./F.B.I. agents who may be watching)...won’t bore you with the details…all things in moderation…

Hypothetically, most of my experiences were about five years ago with various reserch chemicals that were available for purchase over the internet. That was before they were put on the DEA emergency schedule one list. Intersting stuff… 5-MeO-DIPT, AMT, DMT, plus MDMA, LSD, and good old THC
The 5-MeO-DIPT we called f o x y and that was some far out stuff. A Google search brings up 37,500 results which is about 37,480 more than you would have found at that time. My faith is the only thing I had to hold on to during one of those trips. Probably didn’t help we were hypothetically taking about ten times the effective dose. hehehe
I do not endorse the use of any illegal substances.

Use drugs. Whenever you want. Don’t bother others when you use them and use them in moderation. LSD saved my life. It helped me expand my consciousness so greatly. It’s kind of sad how people are too stupid to be able to use something so beautiful and how they ruin it for those of us who want to use drugs to better ourselves.

The reason certain bans and restrictions are made on narcotics is because people tend to use them without any knowledge of the possible risks or effects. LSD, for example, can be harmful even in moderation. Every “trip” you take may not be a good one. Even though I may not agree with the restrictions on certain drugs they are there for your safety.

I can be. But it also can help. Why are we going to ban something when it doesn’t represent everyone? Who are we to judge what people do in their free time. So what if it may be harmful? That’s our choice.

Drugs do no discriminate. They do not care whether or not you believe it will help you. Taking drugs is a gamble. There is a small chance that the drug might better you but there is an equally small chance that it might harm you.

I am not disagreeing with that. I’m saying that should be our own choice. People should do research and instead of banning something, lets try the novel idea of education!

I think the controls are in placed not for your protection but for theirs. If you want a manageable population you can’t very well have them running around expanding their minds and achieving altered states of consciousness. (Almost) every government today understands this.

AL, I suppose if you think we have a manageable population here (in the US), I don’t think we are so manageable. Right on, drugs do not discriminate, even legal pharmiceuticals. Our drug companies scour the planet to find a cure for restless leg syndrome but it also makes you prone to gout, and blurred vision and whimsy, (you know these examples are just for fun) and hey, it also says that on the aspirin bottle nowadays, too. lol There are problems in life that cause some people to lose it completely, there are a lot of people who use alcohol and we know that there are a lot of alcoholics. But many more can use alcohol responsibly and our laws allow for that because it is a legal substance. Just some thoughts…

I have to quote my favorite hip hop group here:
so what you drinkin, so what you poppin so what you eatin, so what you droppin so what you smoking, so what you sniffin so how you copin, so whats the difference contagious, it runs like the paint does sedate the sober and over anxious the pages of pain that make the songs on the playlist the renegade rain that jumped just to flood the basement look honey everybody needs a help-up buddy nobody’s drug free the streets would be hella bloody do you call yourself a patient or a junkie the only thing that separates is who takes your money -Atmosphere
Alcohol has killed more people than every illicit drug on the planet ever will.

Also, nicotine and the tars that accompany it are pretty far up in the death count.

I wouldn’t shut up about how bad alcahol and cigarettes were when my court appointed therapist started in on pot. I pissed him off pretty good. Just saying, don’t get me started…

I would say drugs are very BAD! From my experience when I was younger and wild I did a lot of reckless and dangerous things because of drug use and the behavior associated with them. (run on sentence) My behavior also interfered with others around me. Whether LSD-Pot-E-Alcohol and other drugs I used, I should be dead. It also took me down the path of smoking which took years to quit and further damaged my health. It is not a victim less crime, many get hurt or killed because of the trafficking and use of drugs. I was in a support group for bereaved parents. I was torn up over the loss of my son but had hope because of what we believe and where he is now, but to look at other parents who are in anguish over their child’s death because of a drug over dose is even sadder than my son’s death. We could not change the outcome for our son but so many parents realize that their children did not have to die, their deaths could have been prevented.

I’m standing with joew… I’ve done some pretty stupid stuff while under the influence, and I can’t say any of it has been mind expanding. One of my friends killed himself a week ago while coming down off coke. Another one of my friends killed himself about a year ago when he was on LSD. He was having a bad trip. I’ve seen too many people hurt and/or killed doing drugs… and weed, whether you believe it or not, IS a gateway drug. I never thought I would be trying anything more than pot the first time… that didn’t last very long obviously. I’m not saying that nobody can be responsible enough to do drugs safely and without repercussions, but the majority of the population can’t.

Mr. Mackey: “M’kay, kids, you shouldn’t do drugs, m’kay, drugs are bad. You see, I was at the bottom of the barrel, I was a wreck. Why, I didn’t even care about money. I was wasting my life… You boys need to listen up, m’kay, what I’m talking about might save your life some day… Drugs are bad. You shouldn’t do drugs. If you do them, you’re bad, because drugs are bad. It’s a bad thing to do drugs, so don’t be bad by doing drugs, m’kay, that’d be bad”

Now an original thought: All I have is my experience, and All my bad experiences and all my friends that have died have all been because of alcohol. In contrast some of the most amazing experiences of my life with people and in the old cranium have all been on drugs. Now I’m not saying there are no problems with drugs. There is just a very stark contrast in my life between the two. We always knew what we were taking and made all precautions to stay safe. As with anything else in life that is fun, there is a certain level of risk involved. Stay safe kids. PLUR

Hey all this is my first post. Thought I’d get started somewhere…
Whether or not you choose to label drugs good or bad, I’ve found that some of the most interesting people I’ve met have been involved with mind-expanding drugs. The people who avidly avoid drugs tend to be one-track-minded and unwilling to examine their own thoughts and behaviors. Drugs can force you to self reflect, if you let them. They can be a very humbling experience.
And I will admit that one of the most religious experiences I’ve ever had was when I first took ecstasy (though every time after that was not the same). What I learned and discovered that night still holds true and was not simply a jumble of inebriated thoughts, but a very clear sense of purity, relaxation and letting go of a troubled past.
Basically, if you think you are a strong-willed and inward-looking person, you should at least consider trying some mind-expanding drugs. They might just bring you into some very helpful introspection. They have for me.
