What do you guys think about that? I don’t see it as a bad thing but my mom who is very baptist says “we’re playing god and we don’t have the right to”. If the god creature “gave us brains” then what the hell did he expect us to do with them?

God hasn’t minded so far. In fact, if one believes in the God of the Bible, it seems to me “He” sanctioned this kind of behaviour from us:
And God blessed them, saying: Increase and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the air, and all living creatures that move upon the earth. —Genesis 1:28
We’re not playing god in this case. We’re just doing what we were told. ;-)

I see nothing wrong with it, but I’m probably not going to eat any cloned meat (assuming I’m going to eat any meat at all,) until I see more evidence regarding its safety. I don’t trust our country’s food and drug administration at all.

Oh totally haha but it would be a few years before it’s on the market and I am sure other countries will ok it or already have as well.

I guess that’s part of the old testament they pick and choose from. That’s fine but stoning adulterers in the street isn’t anymore?

I wouldn’t be so sure, EC. Alot of other countries look down on the US food and drug administration.

Oh I know I am not saying they will go solely off of what we say but others are looking into it. A lot of euro countries are studying it as well. I’ll wait to hear a more general consensus before I eat any of it though haha.

Just as long as its safe, I agree with Swiss. Cloning and certain manipulations of humans is a different matter, though.
EC, with regard to the two references to the OT, they’re very different things. One a commission of the role of man by God, the other a law adopted at a specific time and place by and for man. The Bible contains much historical record in addition to its guiding Truth.

Most of our food is already pretty f’d-up by steroids, hormones, and preservatives… If I ever get cancer I’m gonna name it Eddie…

I see no problem with this, especially if it is something that can save hundreds of people from starvation :)))

That’s true, but not in the way that I suspect you think: there is already enough food to feed humanity. The trouble is, many people can’t afford it.
If there’s more food, then the price goes down, and people who were starving can now afford to eat.

Unfortunately the global economy drives the food out of the mouths of the poor to line the pockets of the rich. Starvation really has nothing to do with the supply of food but the distribution(or lack) thereof.

Partly true, AL. Actually, Western humanitarian efforts have often caused much more harm than good. When we give away food in huge quantities regularly, or at least sell it below or even at market, we drive local farmers in those countries out of business, or at least discourage them from cultivating as much land, and we depress their earnings. In these many cases, it has been poorly-thought-out good intentions that have caused the problem, not greed. This is often the case with “good intentions,” especially in government.

I don’t understand why more people won’t do something about starvation in our own country. Plus, we are poisoned daily by the food we eat here already, can’t wait for the cloned stuff!

Some things in our food may be mildly unhealthy (worse if you don’t eat well) and yet we’re living longer than ever… I’m hoping to be able to fit Whole Foods into my budget and lifestyle eventually, but I’m not too concerned about it right now.

HI EVERYONE! I’m back! It’s been months since I’ve been on the site =[
After further analysis on this subject I havd changed my previous opinion. I think cloning animals is a bad thing, not because of the social economy of countries & what not. But because as koo said we already get poisoned as it is by our food.
In Broward County Schools in FL there not serving beef in any of the schools because they later found that those cows had been brutally slaughtered and were kept under bad conditions.
Foods have numerous amounts of preservatives and chemicals and steroids in them which is infact affecting our growth. Girls are menstruating and going thru puberty younger and younger.
A certain precent of the chickens that we EAT have cancer.
And also I’m gna have to disagree with arrandur, in the bibical times people lived over 700 years old. In china & japan and remote villages people live well over one hundred.WHY? Mabe because their food is more natural and has little perservatives if any. But here people live into their 70’s.
JUST SOME FUN FACTS!

Disagree with me? How dare you? :)
Your biblical example of long-lived people wouldn’t bear on this particular topic unless you believed it was because of what they ate.
The Chinese and Japanese often live longer and in many ways there diets ARE better, but those ways have a lot to do with lots of fiber, not too much fat and cholesterol (and therefore less heart disease, our number one killer), and generally issues of nutrition. It also has a lot to do with genetics, since asians, if I’m not mistaken, tend to live longer here in the US even when they eat just like all other Americans. Preservatives and so forth may matter to us, but can you really argue that we of European and African genetic stock in the US aren’t living longer than we have for centuries past? It’s true that that longer lifespan has perhaps most to do with sanitation and hygiene, as well as some medical advancements, but many people these days live longer than in times previous without specific medical attention (so it’s not just medicine that’s doing it).
