I am a Preterist…I believe that the prophecies of Christ have already been fulfilled when the Herodian Temple was destroyed in 70 A.D.

How do the religious figure these things out…? Some small snippet of info in the Bible…?

The Old Testament prophecies; Occurrences/fulfillment within the Scriptures of the New Testament; and the historical destruction of the Herodian temple, as recorded by Josephus in the Antiquities of the Jews.

An interesting belief. Could you please explain it further?

All the prophecies regarding the Messiah have been fulfilled. Gehenna (what most refer to as hell) was a physical place on earth during the reign of Neron Caesar. Neron Caesar in Hebrew (alpha numeric) was the equivalent of the name of the beast (666).

The first Covenant was named Heaven & Earth, the New Heaven and the New Earth mentioned in the New Testament are not a literal descriptive for the physical world, but actually signified the New Covenant between God and mankind through the sacrifice of Christ Jesus.

Several times throughout the New Testament Christ fulfilled the prophecies of the 70 weeks of Daniel, as well as His own prophecies to His contemporaries. Elijah came before through John the Baptist being one such fulfillment, etc..

Did you have specific questions? Otherwise the list goes on and on.

Interesting view. I think I can see the thought process that would come to this conclusion.

Why is Jesus Christ sometimes called Christ Jesus and shouldn’t there be a comma there? That’s my only question.

Avatar PreteristView 137 post(s)

Might want to refer that question to an English language adviser. :O)

Avatar Arandur 606 post(s)

Yeah, I’m not sure it matters. “Christ” is a title that refers to him as the “Anointed One” (literally), meaning the Messiah, Son of God, etc.

Avatar kookookachoo Moderator 1,380 post(s)

For some reason, it seems like a last name. Don’t know why it hit me that way when i read it above.

Avatar Arandur 606 post(s)

Yeshua bin Josef, I think, would have been his full name during his life :)

Avatar Satolkin 448 post(s)

Yep.

“Christ” is a title, as Arandur said, “the annointed one.” Technically, the “Son of G-d” bit would be the Christian adaptation- Judaism doesn’t technically believe the Messiah to be the Son of G-d, at least not in the same sense.

Satolkin,

Are you Jewish? Messianic, or otherwise?

Avatar PreteristView 137 post(s)

Just for interest – Anne Rice is a Preterist. She recently became a Christian while researching for her previous release.

Avatar kookookachoo Moderator 1,380 post(s)

I want to get back into this. Preterism is also a christian religion? Is that what you meant when you said that Rice converted? What did she convert from? Thanks.

Avatar Arandur 606 post(s)

Preterism is an interpretation of the Book of Revelation. It’s not a Christian sect that I’m aware of.

Avatar PreteristView 137 post(s)

Sorry…Hadn’t noticed any responses to this thread. Anne Rice was an atheist. It was after she became a Christian that she started doing research for a new book that she realized for herself that the Preterist belief was historically accurate for her.

Atheists occasionally go “off-the- rails”(mad)...

Satolkin, Are you Jewish? Messianic, or otherwise?

Sorry, Pret- missed this.

No, raised Anglican, became a gnostic in something of the modern neo- gnostic “Sophian” sense.

I’ve been incredibly lucky to have some good religious mentors/ friends, many of whom are Jewish, and a couple of which are rabbis. While originally a Christian Cabbalist, I had occasion to study Torah and Talmud with these gentlemen, and have gained some insight as to the Judaic view of Judaism (which we generally misunderstand as Christians) as well as having been able to correct some misunderstandings they had about Christianity. In addition, ongoing coursework with an esoteric Order has helped with learning some bits and pieces of the Hebrew language, as well as some of the cultural background on the “meanings within meanings” of that language.

Christianity, IMO, was originally meant as more of a reform of Judaism, rather than a whole new religion, which is where my views tend to come from.

Satolkin,

The only reason I asked, was because I have only seen Jewish individuals write God, as G-d. Do you do it for the same reason?

Thanks for addressing my questions…Much appreciated.

Avatar Satolkin 448 post(s)

Yes, same reason.

Avatar LdsGal202 217 post(s)

can you tell me what fullfilmenta exactly do you believed have been fulfilled???

Avatar PreteristView 137 post(s)

The Messianic prophecies, and Revelation.

If you have specific ones that you believe have not been fulfilled, list them, and I can address them specifically.

Avatar LdsGal202 217 post(s)

im not doubting anything actually. I was just curious. The messianic prophecies basically say that there was to be a messiah right? If so I do bellieve in that :)))

Avatar PreteristView 137 post(s)

That would pertain to His birth, life, crucifixion, resurrection, ascension, and return.
