Is organized religion important...?

I’m not really the person to comment…But just wondered how deeply some were tied to any one religious body… |
I’m so, so far from tied to a single belief, and I like being that way. |
Good on yers,FiNiX… |
It’s important for sheep that can’t think for themselves. |
Can also sadly be a means of gathering strength to attack others…i.e….The Crusades |
Maybe a little harsh on my first post. That’s how I view it for me. I certainly think there are many people out there that beneifiet from organized religion. |
Yes. That may have been a tad harsh. If it’s important to you, then it’s important to you, end of story. It completely depends upon the person. |
Organized religion certainly has it’s drawbacks. But there are quite a few people out there that would be completely lost without it. I suppose I’m repeating myself… |
Oh, AL, repeat all you want! I, for one, really enjoy all of your comments. I think that people do benefit from belonging to organizations where all have similar interests, INCLUDING organized religion. There are other types of organizations besides organized religious ones. |
Thanks Kookoo. Mankind sure seems to like involving itself in organized groups don’t they? I guess it’s pretty prevalent across the board. |
That’s ‘cuz we’re pack animals! X3 |
In ages past, I think mankind had to organize into groups of people in order to survive. The pack animal reference certainly has relevance here, FiNiX (I’m getting much faster at typing your name, one of the reasons I choose kookookachoo is that it’s quite easy to type out). And, yes, of course AL, people need to form various groups to support each other, including believers. But I do definitely think that forming groups with other people is part of our natural survival instinct. Some groups may have more (higher?) purpose than others, Examples: The Roman Catholic Church or the NAACP; others less: The Kookookachoo Fan Club (only one member right now so it ain’t much of a group-lol). Good points, all of you! |
What are the bennies of the Kookookachoo Fan Club…? Do we get t-shirts,newsletters,advance notice when you get into punch ups with the papparazzi…? |
Well, one of the problems that I am having is getting people to sign the pledge to worship me, obey my every command and cater to my every whim. There’s also that thing about the 50% tithe of your income. But once you join, the benefits are endless! (at least for me…) |
kookoo.. where do I sign up? you can get 50% of my 60% that the government does not take.. but when you get that tax free status.. then we are home free… |

Organized Religion can be self destructive (As it has in the past and present) if a believer doesn’t have a certain group of uncontested beliefs.. “A man with no personal mission is just an extension of another man’s secret vision.” – JibraelTrumpet That being said you must get rid of the “TEAMWORK TEAMWORK TEAMWORK” mentality and obtain your own strategy. In turn, finding those who share the same strategy. Do not allow your mission to be given to you by another sinner. |

Us folks on this site seen to have just the right amount of irreverence and a justifiable amount of silliness, too. I like it! Edit: I am not implying that what we are saying is silly, but that some of us are and can definitely BE silly. That is mostly for you, JT, because many of your posts are very earnest and I would not want to belittle them (or you). |
it’s got to be better than non-organized religion-I mean, whatever happens, happens. But in the sense of decision making? yeah, sure… |
Kookoo, At this point I know you are a sincere person you don’t have to be wary of you words. You are my friend. |
LOL! I flunked out of college because the people at the Baptist Student Union told me I should be hanging out with my “Christian friends” instead of going to class. True story. ANd if you think organized religion is a fiasco, you should try disorganized religion. (Yes, there’s a story behind that too…) snicker |
I don’t think people realize the dangers of organized religions. It’s fine to believe whatever you want but reality is subjective and different to every person. Most religious groups don’t believe that. Especially western religions because they use their religious influence to gain political power and take over more than just their group. They think their way is the one and only way to…whatever they think may happen when we die or how we should live. This is what happens. |
“Most religious groups don’t believe that. Especially western religions because they use their religious influence to gain political power and take over more than just their group.” Sometimes that does happen. JT, would this be another case of those “plastic” christians that you keep going on about? Or was that AL… I don’t remember… |
Haha I am far from a Christian and certainly not a plastic one. I was pointing out how ridiculous it is that they get their claws in politics so they can control the minds of a vast majority because they have the mindset that they are the only ones who are right or just. |
“I am far from a Christian and certainly not a plastic one.” I was talking about the people whom you were referring to. |
Ah. In any case, those people are still real christians. They just take the bible even more literal than others. |
